2016 Round 1 Seniors vs Stony Creek

The Island was again out played by Easter rivals Stony Creek going down by just 5 points in the big clash at Cowes

After a long pre-season the time has finally come for the real footy to begin. The Island got away to a great start through Michael Duiker kicking the Islands first for the afternoon in just the second minute of play. Inaccuracy again plagued the Island, squandering several opportunities during the quarter to kick away to a big lead. The Islands second goal came at the hands of new recruit Simon Seddon after 17 minutes of play which gave the Island a 14 point lead at quarter time

Q1 Phillip Island 2.4.16 to Stony Creek 0.2.2

After just 30 seconds the Island kicked their third goal as Beau Runnalls opened his account for the season. Just when the Island looked like they were going to take control of the match Stony Creek then started to dominate the Island piling on 4 unanswered goals to leave the Island shell shocked at half time going into the long break down by 5 points

Q2 Phillip Island 3.5.23 to Stony Creek 4.4.28

Again it was a promising start for the Island adding 2 more goals to take back the lead through Ben Van Brummelen and a goal to Brodie Johnston that he will be talking about for years to come. Stony took the lead back with 2 goals in 6 minutes, but a late goal to Aaron Edwards saw the Island take a 5 point lead into the final change

Q3 Phillip Island 6.11.47 to Stony Creek 6.6.42

It was an inaccurate start to the quarter for the Island with a couple of minor scores seeing their lead increase to 7 points 6 minutes into the last but Stony Creek booted their 7th for the afternoon to reduce the deficit to 1 point 9 minutes into the last quarter. Stony added 2 more points of their own to take the lead by a single point 13 minutes in and at the 16 minute mark they stretched their lead to7 points as they kicked their 8th major. The Island reduced the deficit to 6 points and in the dying seconds the Island had a set shot from the boundary to tie things up but the shot sailed wide for a behind and then the siren went to see Stony take victory by 5 points
