A slow start to a cold winter’s morning. The team slowly warmed up and came out strong and hard in the second quarter. Gracie, Tayla and Xyleigh did extremely well in defence, taking it up to attackers. Jarrah, Harry and Sunday did fantastic through the midcourt, feeding to the shooters. Their defence work was also amazing. Makayla, Chanice and Bella did an exceptional job shooting with some feisty moves and incredible shots. Good work team.

The U/15’s drove to Stony Creek for the last time and the rain didn’t come with them. Due to holidays we welcomed Elise Jolly to the side and she did a great job. Everyone played their part, even with the strange position changes by their coach. Great versatility by the players. It was great to see everyone enjoying the game. Good win girls, enjoy the break next week and come back firing as we march towards finals.

Beanies were not a fashion accessary but a necessary down at Stony Creek Saturday, with a lazy wind that goes through you not around. The U/17 girls took to the court. Stony came out firing and pushed the Island girls hard. Just as it looked like panic was about to set in, the girls regrouped. Swapping Taylah from defence to attack and a couple of midcourt moves settled the team. With the wind playing havoc with the passes, the goals started to drop and the Island had a good win. Good luck to Stony Creek in their new league next year.

A Grade

This game was a must win for the Island girls for them to secure their spot in the finals. With big guns Tessa and Diddy absent, the team welcomed back Emily Semple. From the get go it was a tough and physical game. The girls got out of the blocks quickly to set themselves up with a handy lead, which they were able to hold onto throughout the game. Lawri and Emily combined beautifully in defence, with a number of intercepts being made. Amber was showing off a nice golden glow after her vacay in Fiji, and was superb in WD. Kate, Jess and Diesel worked tirelessly in the midcourt, with some great turnovers and feeding into the goalers. Taylah and Kelly had their work cut out for them but held up strong with some great shooting and screening. Great fighting til the end girls to come away with a great win. Have a well-deserved week off.
