2016 Round 17 Netball vs Dalyston

U/13

What a lovely start to the day with the sun shining and no rain!! Under 13’s took the court with fire and determination. Everyone was so encouraging on and off the court. Phillip Island kept up the intensity throughout all four quarters. They never gave up and held their heads high. It was a great team effort to come away with a win.

10thplaced Dalyston came out strong in the first quarter and the 4thplaced Phillip Island girls led by only one goal at quarter time. Our girls took control of the game in the second quarter and continued to build their lead throughout the game. Dalyston kept the pressure up all game through and made our girls work hard for the win. Well done Phillip Island.

Taking on Dalyston at home is no easy task. Not having lost a game this season all the Bulldog girls were going to be tested. In the first five minutes the well-oiled Dalyston team were on, but to the Island girls credit and grit, they didn’t allow an early blow out. It was relentless pressure from both teams as the ball flew up and down the court. Both teams will meet again in the finals (hopefully) so reset girls and play your best and keep your heads up. Great game for finals prep!

A few of the warriors were out this week but that did not deter this giggle of girls. They all fought hard to give the impressive Dalyston team a run for their money. Skip showed everyone her versatility by having a run in the middle whilst birthday girl was all over every pass. Tall timber was strong at both ends and combined well with Tahlia. The smiling assassin ran all day and miss consistent was on fire. J Bell fed well to the goalers and young gun Ash slotted into the team with ease, shooting some swishing goals. Thanks Ash for filling in and a big Happy Birthday to Tori! Thanks also to Dalyston for a great game. Last game next week girls, let's go out with a bang!

This was a crunch match and crunch it was. A physical game from the outset was certainly entertaining for the spectators. Dalyston came to play and took an early lead. The ball was moving quickly up and down the court, making it tough for all the players. Half time saw Dalyston still holding a slender lead. The third quarter was hectic with the shooters dominating, despite the wind and the efforts by the defenders. The scoreboard showed the game to be very close, which added to the general pressure and feeling in the play. However, an apparent mix up with scoring actually meant Dalyston had a relatively comfortable win- not that any of the players would think so!! Well done girls for a terrific game where you exhibited terrific determination and discipline.

The girls knew that this was going to be an incredibly tough and physical match, and that it was! From the first whistle, players and spectators alike could see that it was going to be a hard fought out slog for the entire match. The first quarter started slowly for the Island girls but they were able to regroup for the second and third quarters. They displayed some great aggression for the ball, applied pressure down the court and in the defence end and accuracy became better in the ring which allowed them to keep up with Dalyston throughout the match. Unfortunately Dalyston had a strong last quarter and although the Island fought hard for the entire match, it wasn’t enough to take out the win. The girls hold their heads up high and go into finals feeling confident about how they are playing as a team. Well done girls, let’s keep focused and driven to succeed come finals time.
