2016 Round 2 Netball vs Fish Creek

Under 13

A strong Island side, coming off a convincing win last week, had their work cut out for them against Fish Creek. Although a strong opponent, Sunday Brisbane and Bella Ross demonstrated strength and composure; combining well in the centre. A determination for the ball all game saw Gracie Dempsey grab intercept after intercept. Accurate shooting and quick moving from Chenice Kleverkamp and Maisie Vance allowed for the Island to be up by 5 at half time. Constant pressure from Harry Kalis and Jarrah White was applied in the centre throughout the game and the Fish Creek goalers had to constantly work hard because of the efforts from Makayla Morris and Taylor Kleeven. The final quarter displayed talent from the team beyond their years and although they went down by one in the end, it was a well fought battle. Super Proud!

Final scores: FC 17 def PI 16

Best: Chenice Kleverkamp and Gracie Dempsey

During the week the Island girls put a lot of work in at training and it showed today with an excellent display of netball. Shots were dropping, pressure all over the court was great and the defenders gave the opposition shooters a hard time. Well done girls, keep up the good work.

The conditions at Fish Creek weren’t fantastic at the start of the day, the court started to dry out as the 17’s took to the court. The Island came out fighting against a very competitive Fish Creek. All girls were rotated on court and even though the lead swung between both sides the Island went into the final quarter 4 goals behind. The girls stepped up and managed to close the gap, finishing the game in a nail biting 18 all draw.

Final scores: PI 18 drew FC 18

Best: Haylee Morris, Nell Chaston and Laura Thompson

C grade

It was a messy game to start with but the girls settled down to play some good netball. Looking forward to playing M.D.U next week.

Final scores: PI 32 def FC 25

B grade

It was a close, tight start to this match. Great pressure throughout the court saw Phillip Island take an early lead. Strong rebounding in defence from Kylie Van Steensel and accurate goaling from Mel Kalis and Katelyn Jones saw the Island increase their lead. An injury to Big Gun Bree Rutherford forced her to leave the court and Pippa Treppo stepped up in defence. Well done on the win girls, it was a great team effort!

Final scores: PI 52 def FC 25

Best: Diddy Cuthbertson, Katelyn Jones and Cheeky Goose- Kylie Van Steensel

Our A grade girls came out all guns blazing. Playing with intensity all over the court. Everyone supported each other and there was heaps of chatter and encouragement on the court. Well done to Chloe Moxey for stepping up to cover an unfortunate injury to the young Jess Drazzi. We wish Jess a speedy recovery with her ankle injury. Great game to watch girls. Keep up the good work.
