2016 Round 9 Netball vs Tarwin

On a chilly morning the Island girls came out strong but Tarwin soon responded with equal pressure. Lexi and Amelia worked hard in the centre and Zoe and Cienna defended tirelessly. By half time the girls found their groove and Ella was on fire with her goals. The team worked together and brought home a strong finish.

A great start to the game with the under 13's team shooting an amazing 21 goals in the first half. The team kept up their intensity throughout the game. Position changes were made with shooters going into defence and defence having a run in the centre. The team adapted well to the changes. Our team is so versatile which is fantastic. Keep up the good work team.

A cold but sunny start to the game seen us lead the first quarter by three goals. The results were the same in the second quarter. The final half of the game was played well by all girls and that's when we got the jump on Tarwin and came away with a nice 22 goal win.

The under 17's had a solid start against Tarwin at home with a 15-5 lead at the end of the first quarter. The lead slowly built through each quarte with the defensive end linking well with the attacking players. There were lots of rotations through each quarter with every player having great input into the game.

The girls started off slowly down by 12 in the first half. The team re-grouped at half time with a few position changes and wise words from the coach. Intensity lifted and the girls went into the last quarter only 8 goals down. Unfortunately the team couldn't come away with the win but an improvement on past weeks.

Its fair to say that 2 weeks off from training showed on the court today. First quarter started off quite sloppy with passes being missed which seemed to continue by all the girls through the rest of the game. Putting Bree into centre seemed to steady the girls a bit and with Mel and Katelyn's accurate goaling and some strong rebounding and intercepts from Kylie, Emily and Naz the Island girls were able to hold onto the lead and take away the win. Dare I suggest two nights of training this week to get the girls back to there usual form!

Best: Narelle Lindner and Bree Rutherford

For the first time this season the girls experienced playing in a bit of rain! However, that didn't stop them from coming out of the starting blocks with guns blazing and taking to the first quarter break with a convincing lead. The team welcomed back Diddy from injury and were not disappointed with the performance she put on through the mid court. Kate was also sublime in the midcourt, feeding beautifully into the shooters. Taylah and our giraffe Kell were absolutely on fire shooting with high accuracy and from all over the circle. Amber was phenomenal in WD picking off many balls in the midcourt and chasing after everything. The twin towers Lawri and Tessa worked hard at keeping the Tarwin shooters to minimal scoring opportunities. The two young Jess's (Jess Drazzi and Jess Gysberts) both coming on for a quarter, fitted in nicely and supported the team down the attacking end. It was a great team effort and the girls should be proud of another fantastic win! Let's keep the momentum going into next weeks much needed win against Foster!

A big congratulations to our very own Lawri Piera and Diddy Cuthbertson who both made it into the PIFNC team of the last 70 years. We are not surprised at all by this fabulous achievement which is very deserving of two brilliant players of the club. Hopefully this year we can give finals a red hot go and top off what is shaping up to be a great start to the season for our team.
